The tipsy truth about August

Tuesday, August 07, 2007

With tech troubles behind me, I'm thrilled to get back to writing about really important things like the latest in fashion and beauty! While August is still dishing out hot, humid weather, my mind has totally turned to the crisp days of Fall! Luckily I'm not alone. As soon as the calendar flips, every retail and media outlet is buzzing with non-stop info on the hottest up-and-coming trends of the seaon.

As if that's not enough to turn me tipsy, here's the real scandal - August is one of the absolute best times to shop for spring and summer styles! Since it's, "Out with the old and in with the new," all of the fab summer frocks are now clearanced. I'm a little light-headed by all the amazing buys out there right now. But don't just buy something because it's on sale, this is the time to channel your inner fashionista and invest in the classics that suit your style. See, while 80s retro might be of-the-moment style, chances are good that next summer that clearance item will turn to a fashion faux-pas. But getting a killer deal on classically cut designer pieces, like the perfect pair of slacks, a crisp white blouse, or amazingly stylish shoes will nearly guarantee that next Spring you'll be tipsy all over again! This same shopping rule applies to January/February for Fall and Winter fashion deals!

The other thing that's got me tipsy about August - all the amazing new beauty products that are launching! There's so much to talk about, but here are a few of my latest faves:

  • The new Artistry Lip Care Kit is pout perfection! First off, in my book, everyone should want soft and smooth lips to pucker up with. Second, the lip conditioner is just yum alone or under any lip product. I think it's got a bit of a citrus flavor to it and it makes my lips feel lush and smooth every time I apply it. The lip polish is actually the one doing the dirty work. Just be sure to wipe your lips completely clean with a washcloth or tissue when you use it. Otherwise it can feel reminiscent of hitting the beach with perfectly glossed lips...
  • I love the vol 5 rock revolution products from NAO! What can I say, I've always had a soft-spot for rocker-chic style ... So picking this theme and naming the products was as much fun as jamming with Guitar Hero. Of course the glosses always have my following. But the real standout product for me is the idol eyes eye color stick. Ummmmm - fabulous! The shimmery gold may look a little intimidating, but just blend it and you'll be left with a perfect sheen. And it's in a great applicator that you can tote with you everywhere! If you need a quick pick-me-up at the end of the day, use idol eyes on the inside corner of the eyes. Lightening this area automatically makes you look more awake.

Speaking of being awake, I'm barely there! There's plenty more fabulousness to share but right now this tipsy girl needs to catch-up on some much needed beauty sleep!

Sweet dreams!

Speaking of the NAO vol. 5 - why is it so skimpy?  The lip glosses from vol. 4 ran out a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time ago, as well as the liquid lip colors and lipsticks- where are the replacements???  Been waiting for vol. 5, but feeling the corporation dropped the ball on this one?  What's up?

Sorry you're not feelin the love on vol. 5. I don't know that there's ever been a set number of products added for each collection, but I think vol. 5 is pretty great. Plus, everyone always wants the new stuff, right? But sometimes it's best to make something old new again. There are plenty of shade options still available from the earlier collections. Honestly, I'm in awe everytime that I see the shadow/trace mineral pigment set is still available. EVERYONE should own that set. There's not a person out that can't use a light minky brown shadow and the most brilliant champagne shimmer I've seen on the market.

Maybe it's time to go back and re-test the originals? Not to mention that all the new Artistry eye and cheek colours just launched. I know Artistry and NAO are different but the new shades for Artistry are quite fab!

hi t,

been reading your blog and have waited to comment until now. i really appreciate it when you give us news of the new artistry/nao products coming out. what would be even better if you could use your expertise as a makeup artist to share some industry secrets and some creative ways of using our products so that we can sell them better. in an earlier post you had asked us for our suggestions to increase sales, but i'd like to hear from you. for example, give us tips on how to apply the latest trends in makeup - what's the best face for the fall-what brushes must we absolutely have in our makeup set-etc. i'd like for this blog to be a resource rather than just a reporting of your day-to-day happenings. you have so much to share based on your knowledge of the industry and of the products and i'm just waiting for more of it. the reason why i mention all this is that i want to take my artistry/nao biz to the next level - we started with skin care and are moving into makeup artistry, and we'd love to charge for our services. here are a few questions:

-would you recommend that we use skin refinishing lotion as a primer before foundation?

-any chance that artistry will come out with oil blotter sheets?

-what's the best makeup for a bride - oil control foundation with flawless foundation over?

-how can we create a waterproof look with artistry/nao cosmetics?

-can you give us some insight into what = the new artistry essentials collection is -is it mineral makeup?

-what are these artistry videos you keep mentioning - will they be part of Quixtar University?

-any possibility of artistry/nao coming out with sample sizes of popular products for us to sell/market?

-why are we severing our relationships with the awesome Jeannie Mai?

Ok, that's it for this posting. look forward to your responses!

I have used the Shadow/Trace Mineral Pigment since it came out and I love it!! I use Trace as an eyeshadow, brushing over my entire upper lid. I have green eyes and it really makes them pop. Depending on my outfit, I'll use the Artistry Fig Eye Define pencil; or if I want to bring out the blue in my eyes, the Lunar Eye Define is gorgeous.
